Magpie
Two Magpies inspecting the compost heap. The lower bird seems to have a beak deformity similar to the back garden bird pictured below.

During the recent cold snap, this bird visited the garden. It has a huge deformation of the upper bill. However, this was a chunky individual and obviously has no problem feeding. Norwich - December 2023

A series of pictures showing a dispute over food between Magpies and Jackdaws...
Initially there was just one Jackdaw surrounded by four Magpies (although I never caught more than two in the pictures)...
Then support arrived, presumably in the form of the first bird's mate...
... which stood guard whilst the first Jackdaw continued to eat...
... defending the food from attempts by the Magpies to take it ...
... and seeing off any birds that got too close. Eventually, the Jackdaws left with their prize. Norwich - July 2019
Sitting on the garden feeders. I thought the bird would go down for some mealworms, having endured a bitter night, thanks to The Mini Beast but instead it just left. Norwich - March 2018
