Yare Valley, Norwich - February 2024
My first singing Song Thrush of the year. I did hear one in December but it wasn't going through its full repertoire.

The people we rented the cottage from have been on Tiree for over fifty years. They told me that hedgerow birds, such as the Song Thrush until the New Zealand plant Olearia traversii became established in hedges. It's the only type of bush that copes with conditions on the island.

Searching Anderson's Meadow for food, despite the unpromising hard, dry surface, it seemed to be having some success. Norwich - July 2022
In exactly the same place as yesterday's Mistle Thrushes, today a Song Thrush. Riverside path, Norwich - April 2022
Early morning light, Surlingham, Norfolk - April 2022
It took me about twenty minutes to find this bird, even though it was obvious which tree it was in. The effort was well worth it.

This bird was singing in the woods at Earlham Hall. Norwich - March 2022
This bird was in full voice in Earlham Cemetery this morning. It then flew down to feed. The difference in the light compared to yestrerday is evident when compared to the photograph yesterday below. Norwich - March 2022
This bird was singing in "The Heronry" by Eaton Park. It must be an historic name as no herons nest there now. Norwich - March 2022
A singing male, by the marsh in Hellesdon, Norwich - February 2022
This is the Earlham Road bird photographed whilst I was in the cemetery. I think this bird is technically in someone's garden but the tree branches over the fence. Earlham Cemetery, Norwich - April 2021
One of two singing males in the cemetery; this one at the Bowthorpe Road side, the other at the Earlham Road side. This bird had chosen a spot which had only one clear line of sight without any branches in the way.

I was worried that the Song Thrush had abandoned the cemetery, so it was a real delight to rediscover this bird in full song at the top a very tall tree. Earlham Cemetery, Norwich - March 2021
Ny the Wensum, on the way to the allotment. Norwich - May 2020
A pair foraging next to the Wensum on the way to the allotment. Norwich - April 2020
A pair of Song Thrushes on the Marriott's way this morning. This one was quite bold, confidently feeding out in the open. Probably the male...
... This bird was much more circumspect, keeping to the undergrowth. Probably the female. Norwich - March 2020
This bird was searching the molehills in an area of grass by the Wensum. So intent was it on its search that it tolerated me getting quite close. Youngsters need feeding! Norwich - June 2019

I didn't have a Song Thrush visit my garden this winter, I think it's been too mild to cause any to leave their usual territories, so it was nice to find this individual in full song. Earlham Cemetery, Norwich - February 2019
Bathing with a female blackbird. Marriott's Way, Drayton - November 2018
A rather soggy individual on the washing line outside the cottage at Baugh, Tiree - August 2018
The same individual as above, seemingly gazing wistfully out to sea. Baugh, Tiree - August 2018
A juvenile bird still shedding down, also on the washing line. It may be the same bird as above but I really can't say. Baugh, Tiree 2018
A snail's demise. Church Lane, Eaton, Norwich - June 2018
In full voice, by the Wensum near Sweetbriar, Norwich - March 2018
Foraging or mealworms in the garden. Norwich February 2018
This appears to be a different individual to the one in the pictures below. The markings on the head are different. Lying low in the garden buddleia, Norwich - January 2018
A regular vistor at the moment. Very much the bottom of the pecking list compared to the blackbirds and starlings, unfortunately, when it comes to the mealworms. I wish it would find some of the many hundreds of snails that live in the garden! Norwich - December 2017
